Don't ya just love that bookstore? ;D I think I might go back and buy some more a bit later, but for now i'm going through the SQL book.
To be honest, my enthusiasm for MySQL was less than overwhelming to begin with, so as soon as it started being an ass, I gave up. But that's the first time
i've had to go into the registry editor and delete files JUST so I could the retry to install something.
I've looked into that Zend Community Server, and I may have to give a try once I get more into the PHP, cheers for the recommendation. I'm still
tentatively on Javascript, still reading about SQL.. so PHP hasn't had much of a look in yet. But soon! Original comment »

I played a bit with PostgreSQL yesterday. It's very advanced, but on the other hand I missed simple things like an auto increment option. Will probably
have to go to the "bookstore" and read up on it.
After I had had enough of Postgres, I did some stuff with SQLite. I've used it before in school projects and I'm always amazed on how much you can do
with this little thing.
I hope you're enjoying JavaScript. Are you using a framework? My favourite is MooTools, but come the time, I will have a look at jQuery and Dojo, just to
have some more things under my belt. Thanks to the whole Ajax hype, JavaScript is getting a lot of attention (more than it rightfully deserves, imo), so you
can never know too much about it.
Hee! And for a moment, I thought you were going to accuse me of being behind all of those Otalia recommendations. Hah! But that would be silly! Ha ha haaaaa!
Hmm, ok. I am currently acquiring some books/tutorials on PHP, Javascript and some SQL aswell.. from the.. er.. "bookstore"..So I shall continue
playing around when they've "been delivered"..
I kinda lost the will to MySQL, from what i've read in numerous forums, everyone seems to have issues installing it. I don't get exactly WHY they need
to make it such a pain in the ass. But for now, MS will do for me. (Sorry, guess we're gonna have to be in SQL rival gangs ;P)
Anyways, hope your OReilly's SQL reading goes well, I think too much in one go would get kinda brain melty, but knowledge is always fun to acquire, so best
of luck! Original comment »

While I can't imagine what's so hard about installing MySQL (especially on Windows), I would suggest that you try an all-in-one package that comes with
a web server, PHP and MySQL. You surely know XAMPP. My personal favourite is Zend Server Community Edition. The Zend Server is an enterprise level PHP web
server, but they do have a community edition for starving students. I kicked other servers off my computers and replaced them with Zend Server CE. Good stuff.
